1. Who we are
The data controller is 1066 Games, LLC, [PLACEHOLDER: registered address, state/country of incorporation]. Contact: support@YOURDOMAIN [PLACEHOLDER: privacy contact email]. [PLACEHOLDER: EU/UK representative, if required]
2. Information we collect
Information you give us

- Support and press messages: the contents of emails you send us and your contact details.
- Purchases: if you buy directly from this website, payment is processed by [PLACEHOLDER: Stripe and/or Paddle]. We receive confirmation of the purchase, your email address and limited transaction details; we do not receive or store your full card number. Purchases through Steam, Google Play or itch.io are governed by those stores’ privacy policies.
Information collected automatically
- Device and browser information, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, pages viewed, referring URLs, and interaction events — collected through cookies, SDKs and similar technologies described below, subject to your consent where required.
- For the Android app: advertising identifiers (such as the Google Advertising ID) and app interaction data if ads or analytics SDKs are enabled. [PLACEHOLDER: confirm SDKs actually included in the Android build]
- [PLACEHOLDER: crash reporting / Unity Analytics / other SDKs used, if any]
3. Save data stored on your device
The Game is designed to be playable offline. Your saved games, settings and in-game progress (including Activity Points and unlocked Civs, Leaders and maps) are stored locally on your device. In the browser build this uses your browser’s IndexedDB storage (and may use localStorage for small settings). On desktop and Android it uses local files on the device.
This save data stays on your device and is not sent to us [PLACEHOLDER: confirm: is any save data, account data or Activity Points data ever synced to a server or cloud save (e.g. Steam Cloud, Google Play Games)?]. Clearing your browser data, uninstalling the Game or resetting your device may permanently delete your progress. Activity Points have no monetary value.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We and our partners may use cookies, local storage, pixels and mobile identifiers for:
- Strictly necessary: remembering your cookie choices and keeping the site working (no consent required).
- Analytics: Google Analytics 4 (see section 6).
- Advertising: Google AdSense on the website and Google AdMob in the app (see section 5).
Where required by law (including in the EEA, UK and Switzerland), we only set non-essential cookies after you consent, using a consent management platform. [PLACEHOLDER: name of the Google-certified CMP used (IAB TCF v2.2). A Google-certified CMP is required to serve Google ads to users in the EEA, UK and Switzerland.] You can change your choices at any time via “Cookie settings” in the footer, and you can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
5. Advertising (Google AdSense & AdMob)
We may show ads on this website through Google AdSense and in the Android app through Google AdMob. Google and its partners use cookies and device identifiers to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites or apps, and to measure ad performance. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by Google at adssettings.google.com, and learn more at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.eu.
- On Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID or opt out of ads personalization in your device settings.
- Learn how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads. [PLACEHOLDER: list of other ad partners/mediation networks, if any]
6. Analytics (Google Analytics 4)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site and Game (for example, pages visited, session length and device type). GA4 uses cookies and collects IP addresses, which Google uses to derive approximate location; GA4 does not log or store IP addresses for EU users. We use Google Consent Mode so that analytics cookies are not set until you consent where consent is required. You can opt out using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. [PLACEHOLDER: GA4 data retention setting, e.g. 2 or 14 months]
7. How we use information
- To provide, operate and improve the website and Game;
- To process purchases and provide support;
- To send newsletters you asked for (you can unsubscribe at any time);
- To show and measure ads, and to understand usage through analytics;
- To prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
8. How we share information
We share information with service providers that act on our behalf (hosting [PLACEHOLDER: hosting provider, e.g. Cloudflare/Netlify], payment processors, newsletter provider, analytics and advertising partners such as Google), with app stores you buy through, when required by law, or in connection with a merger or acquisition. We do not sell your personal information for money. Some advertising and analytics uses may be considered “selling” or “sharing” under certain US state laws; see section 10.
9. EEA/UK users (GDPR / UK GDPR)
Legal bases: consent (non-essential cookies, personalized ads, analytics, newsletter); contract (purchases and support); legitimate interests (security, basic site operation, improving the Game); and legal obligation.
Your rights: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior processing). You may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise your rights, email support@YOURDOMAIN [PLACEHOLDER].
10. California residents (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to request deletion and correction; to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information (including for cross-context behavioral advertising); to limit use of sensitive personal information (we do not intentionally collect it); and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
Categories collected in the past 12 months may include identifiers (email, IP address, device/advertising IDs), commercial information (purchases), internet activity, and approximate geolocation. To opt out of sale/sharing, use [PLACEHOLDER: “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link / CMP setting]; we also honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals [PLACEHOLDER: confirm]. To submit a request, email support@YOURDOMAIN [PLACEHOLDER]. We will verify your request before responding. [PLACEHOLDER: other US state privacy laws (e.g. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut) — counsel to confirm]
11. Children’s privacy (COPPA)
The website and Game are [PLACEHOLDER: confirm target audience and age rating] not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK, where higher ages apply) without verifiable parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
If any part of the Game is directed to children or has a mixed audience, we will treat users identified as children accordingly: personalized advertising will be disabled, ad requests will be tagged as child-directed (e.g. AdMob/AdSense “tag for child-directed treatment”), and analytics will be limited. [PLACEHOLDER: counsel to confirm COPPA approach and Google Play Families policy requirements]
12. Retention & security
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above [PLACEHOLDER: specific retention periods]. Locally stored save data remains on your device until you delete it. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
13. International transfers
We are based in [PLACEHOLDER: country], and our service providers may process data in other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will post the new version here and update the “Last updated” date; for material changes we will provide additional notice where required.
